Take I 40 to US 23 and head south
toward Atlanta.
Come through Waynesville and Sylva
and over the mountain to Franklin.
In Franklin you will have to exit and get on 441 south.
Once you enter Georgia stop and get a lottery ticket.
Then drive through Clayton on 441 and continue south.
Go about 8 miles past the large Meglomart Store and look
for signs on the right to Rabun Beach Recreation Area..
This road is called "Old 441".
Its about 1 mile south of a little pub on the right called Up The
Creek...
Don't stop there unless you are related to the owner...
Once you are on Old 441,
You will drive about 3 or 4 miles to the intersection of Lake Rabun
Road...
Turn left onto Lake Rabun Road and
prepare for a slow 2nd gear drive up the shore of the lake...
If it is dark when you arrive you must be very careful....
Go 5 miles up the road and look for the campground on the right...
The large NFS sign is on the left directly across the road
from the loop that we will occupy..
It is the second entrance to the campground from this direction...
Take I 85 to I 985 towards Gainesville Ga.
Drive on 985 (which turns into US 441 at Cornelia)
for about an hour and 44 minutes
and you should be at or near Tallulah Gorge..
Once you cross the bridge that spans the Tallulah River
you will be 1.5 miles south of the turn off for "Old 441"
Turn left onto old 441 and drive about 3 or 4 miles
to the intersection of Lake Rabun Road.
Drive up Lake Rabun Road for about 5 miles
and look for the campground on the right....
The large NFS sign will be on the left
directly across the road from the entrance
to the loop that we will occupy...
Take whatever road you must to get to Walhalla,
SC
and then take US 76 to Clayton, Ga ....
From Clayton you can follow the Asheville directions south to Old 441...
Or you can take I 85 south into Georgia then take Ga 17
through Toccoa and look for signs to Clayton..
You will travel north of Toccoa for about 11 miles
and you will come to US 441...
Turn north toward Clayton Ga on 441
and in about 15 minutes you will cross the Tallulah Gorge Bridge.
Go 1.5 miles past the bridge and turn left onto "Old 441" ..
Drive up old 441 for about 4 miles to the intersection of Lake Rabun Road..
Turn left onto Lake Rabun Road and drive the shore of the lake for 5 miles..
The campground will be on the right..
